Microsoft’s new and much improved Edge now gives anyone the ability to install a PWA on a Windows 10 PC or in many cases, to create a PWA from any website (How well a specific website works as a PWA can vary greatly).
A PWA is an advanced version of websites optimized to run as a native app on your device.
For this article, I am going to be using Microsoft’s Mixer website as a good example as they don’t provide a separate Mixer app to install on Windows 10.
- Open up the Mixer website (https://www.mixer.com) in your installation of Microsoft Edge.
- Click on the 3 Horizontal Dots on the top right of the menu and scroll Apps and the click on Install the site as an app.
- Click on the Install App in the Center of your screen and select an app name, for Mixer, it will use Mixer (Shocking) and the Mixer icon as the app icon.
The Mixer app will now show as recently add app in the Windows 10 Start Menu
